Photogrammetry is a technique used to construct a 3D mesh from a collection of images by analysing tens to hundreds of photos from different angles for similar features such as a lamp post in the background or using the blue sky to determine the orientation of the photo.
3D Printing Myself
By using a free photogrammetry app called Polycam I was able to produce a 3D mesh of my upper body.
To do this I asked my dad to orbit around me taking photos approximately every 10 degrees before moving up slightly until we had a little under 100 photos.
I then went to blender to touch up my model using the sculpting tools before printing.
The hair and shirt came out really well and caught a lot of detail however the face, as you can see by the left most image, isn’t quite perfect. However considering this model was made entirely from 2D photos and the click of a button is insane.
